MUSKOKA LAKES, Ont. - The University of Notre Dame men’s golf team finished in second place at the Canadian Collegiate Invitational, marking the program’s second consecutive top-two finish to open up the season.
The Irish finished with a 5-over 857 at the tournament while New Mexico won the event with a 5-under 547. Santa Clara (12-over), Mississippi State (19-over), Rutgers (25-over) and Missouri (25-over) rounded out the top five.
Three Notre Dame golfers recorded top-10 finishes in the individual competition, led by Rocco Salvitti’s 3-under 210 over the three rounds to place him tied for fourth overall.
Jacob Modleski’s 1-over 214 positioned him eighth while Peyton Blackard carded a 2-over 215 to put him in a tie for ninth.
ROUND ONE
The Fighting Irish were in third place following the opening round of play, posting an even par 284. Notre Dame trailed just New Mexico (8-under) and Mississippi State (2-under) after the first round.
Three players finished under par on Sunday, led by Blackard’s 2-under 69. The sophomore totaled five birdies to record the best score by a Fighting Irish golfer.
Salvitti and Modleski each turned in rounds of 1-under 70 on the day. Liam Pasternak rounded out the Fighting Irish scorers with a 4-over.
ROUND TWO
Notre Dame turned in the best round of the tournament on Monday, firing a 9-under 275 to move up to second place behind New Mexico (15-under). All four Fighting Irish golfers that scored were either even or below par.
Salvitti led the charge with a round of 4-under 67. After a 1-under 34 on the front nine he posted three birdies and six bogeys on the back to complete his excellent day.
Mike Qiu was just one stroke behind with a 3-under 68, his best round of the tournament. Qiu’s round featured four birdies and just one bogey. Blackard also had a notable performance, shooting a 2-under 69 and Modleski had the fourth best round of the day with an even par 71.
ROUND THREE
Tuesday’s final round was by far the toughest the course played over the tournament, as every team was at least 10-over for the day. The Irish finished the round with a +14 298 to secure the second-place finish.
Salvitti and Modleski each recorded a score of 2-over 71s to complete their week of play and cement top-10 finishes on the individual leaderboard. Pasternak completed his round with a 4-over 75 and Blackard posted a score of 6-over 77 to round out the Fighting Irish scorers for the day.

Notre Dame is back on the course in two weeks at the Windon Memorial Classic in Chicago at Knollwood Club. The two-day event starts on Monday, Sept. 28 and concludes on Tuesday, Sept. 29.
