SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Catalino Family Head Hockey Coach Brock Sheahan has announced that Danny Nelson will serve as the captain for the 2026-27 season. This is the second straight season Nelson will don the ‘C’ for the Fighting Irish.
Paul Fischer will join Nelson in a leadership position, being named an alternate captain for the second season in a row.
Nelson becomes the first Fighting Irish skater to be named a captain in multiple seasons since Steven Fogerty in 2014-15 & 2015-16 and the 14th player in program history to be a captain multiple seasons.
Nelson produced a career-high 29 points during his junior season, totaling 13 goals and 16 assists. The forward was exceptional on the power play, scoring a team-best seven goals in the 2025-26 campaign.
Fischer enjoyed his most productive season in 2025-26 for the Irish with a career-high 23 points off six goals and 17 assists.
The Irish get the season underway with a pair of exhibitions next weekend, as they welcome the USNTDP to Compton Family Ice Arena at 7 p.m. ET on Oct. 2 and then face Toronto at 4 p.m. ET on Oct. 3.
The season officially begins the following week with a series against Niagara with a pair of 7 p.m. ET starts on Oct. 8 & 9.
