Notre Dame Athletics Unveils Two New Sports-Specific Leprechaun Marks

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame Athletics Department has unveiled its fifth and sixth sport-specific Leprechaun marks, with volleyball and men’s and women’s soccer the latest sports to receive the marks. The athletics department will continue to introduce sport-specific Leprechauns throughout the 2026-27 season, following the release of football, hockey, basketball and golf Leprechaun marks in 2025. Additional marks representing each unique sport in which the Fighting Irish compete at the varsity level will be unveiled in future seasons.

The new marks were designed in-house by Fighting Irish Media, with input from the Notre Dame volleyball and soccer programs. The designs were inspired by photography and fundamentals from both former and current student-athletes.

The Fighting Irish Leprechaun logo first appeared on the cover of the November 20, 1964, edition of Time, featuring first-year Notre Dame head football coach Ara Parseghian. The image developed for the cover eventually was adapted into the logo that Irish athletic fans across the nation have come to recognize on clothing, memorabilia and more.

The Notre Dame Leprechaun serves as a secondary spirit mark of Notre Dame athletics. Its long-standing history represents the tenacious spirit of the Fighting Irish and their determination. The Leprechaun is recognized around the world today as the mascot of Notre Dame athletics dating back to its design in the early 1960s.

In partnership with Under Armour, new Fighting Irish athletics apparel featuring the volleyball and soccer Leprechaun marks are available now.
