SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Notre Dame Fighting Irish (2-0-5) finished with a dominant 8-0 Senior Day win over the IU Indy Jaguars (2-3-1) on Sunday afternoon at Alumni Stadium.
The Irish finished the day with five different goal scorers and a season-high six assists. Izzy Engle had herself a day as the junior forward recorded her first hat trick of the season, which is the third hat trick of her career. Chipping in an assist as well, she finished the day tying her career high of seven points.
Ellie Hodsden finished the day with a brace, her first of the season and third of her career. Gabi Poretto, Bristol Kersh, and Kate Kemmerley each finished with a goal a piece in the win.
Marley Adams, Gracie Milam, Chayse Ying, Kemmerely, Kersh, and Engle each recorded an assist.
Goalkeeper Jackie Hollomon finished with a career-high six saves and was relieved by Madeleine Agee, who saw the pitch for the first time in her Irish career on Sunday afternoon.
Notre Dame dominated possession, outshooting the Jaguars 28-9. The Irish were aggressive in their attack with Reese Canada initially leading the charge as she had three shots in the first 20 minutes of play.
Ellie Hodsden would put the Irish on the board in the 22nd minute as Kersh launched it downfield to the junior forward for the fast break opportunity. As the IU Indy goalkeeper came off their line, Hodsden would send it right over their head as it found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.
Shortly after in the 27th minute, Hodsden drew a foul in the box as Poretto converted on the PK. Poretto’s first goal in an Irish uniform gave the Irish the 2-0 advantage.
The Irish would put away one more goal as Engle would get in on the scoring action before the half came to as close
Just five minutes into the second half, Kemmerley found Kersh on the left wing. Attacking down the left flank, Kersh fired it from just outside the box to the upper right corner of the goal for her very first career goal in the 51st minute.
In the 62nd minute, Hodsden drew another foul in the box, where Engle converted on the PK for the brace to put the Irish up 5-0.
The scoring frenzy continued as Engle capped off her hat trick in the 67th minute as Marley Adams recorded her first career assist on the play to extend the Irish lead.
Leading 6-0, Hodsden recorded a brace in the 67th minute as Engle found Hodsden for an attack up the middle, launching it past the Jaguar keeper.
Continuing to push in transition, Notre Dame’s final goal came on a beautiful ball from Milam to Kemmerley. As Kemmerley attacked into the box, she drove past the keeper for an empty net opportunity to make it 8-0 for the Irish.
