SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Freshman running back Jonaz Walton was named to the Paul Hornung Honor Roll following his stellar performance in Notre Dame’s 37-26 road victory over North Carolina Saturday in Chapel Hill. Walton is the second Irish running back to earn the honor this season, joining Aneyas Williams, who was recognized after the season opener.

A native of Carrollton, Georgia, Walton turned in a career performance, rushing for 120 yards on 23 carries (5.2 ypc) while adding two receptions for 28 yards and 28 kick return yards. His all-around performance helped Notre Dame improve to 5-0 on the season.

Walton’s 120 rushing yards are the most by an Irish true freshman since Deon McIntosh rushed for 124 yards at North Carolina on Oct. 7, 2017. Walton played 31 snaps and recorded a 79.4 PFF grade, the highest among Notre Dame running backs.

Named after the former Notre Dame Heisman Trophy winner, The Paul Hornung Award is presented annually to the most versatile player in major college football. Fans can vote for Walton HERE.
