MADISON, Wis. -  Notre Dame dropped its second game of the weekend in the Kohl Center against No. 2/2 Wisconsin, coming by a score of 9-1 on Saturday evening in Madison.

The Irish goal was scored by freshman Beckham Edwards, the first goal in his Fighting Irish career.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Irish and Badgers battled to a scoreless standstill following the opening 20 minutes of play as the game entered the first intermission at 0-0.

Notre Dame’s best scoring chance came on a power play, as Evan Werner fired a shot from the slot that went just wide of the goal. Quinlan made nine saves in the first period to keep the Badgers off the board.

Wisconsin scored twice in the first three minutes of the second period, as Logan Hensler and Eetu Orpana each finished rebounds to put the Badgers up 2-0.

The Irish pulled one back on their second power of the evening, as Edwards fired in his first career goal from the left dot to cut the Wisconsin lead in half at 2-1 at the 8:24 mark of the second period.

The hosts responded with two power-play goals in a two-minute span before adding another in the final minute of the second period to give them a 5-1 lead after two periods of play. The final three Wisconsin goals of the period were scored by Bruno Idzan.

The Badgers tacked on four more power-play goals in the final six minutes to make the final score 9-1.
