NOTRE DAME, Ind. — Junior outside hitter Charley Niego has been named the ACC’s Player of the Week while freshman middle blocker Lindsey Miller was tabbed the ACC’s Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday morning (Oct. 6).
The duo helped the Irish (3-0, 3-0 ACC) earn a pair of home victories last weekend over fifth-ranked Syracuse.
Niego led the Irish with 19 kills and 18 digs in Friday’s four-set victory over the Orange before adding 15 kills with a .467 hitting percentage in Saturday’s sweep. The Chicago, Illinois, native has averaged 15 kills per game in the first three contests of the season with a hitting percentage of .271. Niego’s mark of 4.50 kills per set currently leads the ACC after two weeks of play.
Miller totaled 20 kills, seven blocks and a hitting percentage of .588 in the pair of victories over Syracuse last weekend. The San Diego, California, native currently leads the ACC with a .532 hitting percentage. Miller has racked up 27 kills and nine blocks in her first three collegiate starts.
UP NEXT
The No. 6 Irish are off next weekend before returning to action with a pair of home matches against No. 10 Pitt on Friday, October 16 and Sunday, October 18. That Friday’s contest will be televised on ESPNU while Sunday’s match will be shown on ACC Network.
