DALLAS, Texas – The 22nd-ranked Notre Dame Women’s Tennis opened up conference play with a road victory, beating No. 57 SMU 4-1 Friday afternoon. The Irish are now 11-1 this spring and 1-0 in Atlantic Coast Conference play.
Notre Dame took the doubles point to open up the match, getting 6-3 wins at both No. 2 (Akari Matsuno/Rylie Hanford) and No. 3 (Bianca Molnar/Bojana Pozder) doubles.
After SMU tied the match with a win at No. 3 singles, Nibi Ghosh took court five, winning 6-3, 6-4 to put the Irish back on top.
Hanford continued her exceptional spring, winning 6-4, 7-6 (4) at No. 6 singles to put the Irish just one win away from a clinch. The junior from Chesterland, Ohio is now 10-1 in singles play in 2025.
On No. 4 singles, Molnar clinched the conference match for the Irish, but it didn’t come easy. In the second set, Arianna Stavropoulos fought hard, forcing a tiebreaker. But Molnar held her off, winning the tiebreak set 11-9 and her match 6-2, 7-6 (9).
Notre Dame continues ACC play next Friday, February 28th at 4 p.m. against Wake Forest inside the Eck Tennis Pavilion. Admission to all Notre Dame Tennis matches is free.
