MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The No. 22 University of Notre Dame men’s tennis team closed out the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic on a strong note as it dropped No. 29 Cornell, 4-1, Sunday afternoon at Lagoon Park in Montgomery, Ala.

Notre Dame had to make a comeback against the Big Red as the Ivy League school claimed the doubles point with wins at one and two. Venkat Iyer and Alex Sidney won 8-6 at one over Greg Andrews and Spencer Talmadge and Jason Luu and Quoc-Daniel Nguyen took down Billy Pecor and Alex Lawson, 8-5, at two.

In singles the Irish regrouped and earned wins at one, three, four and five to clinch a winning weekend at the historic tournament. No. 96 Andrews beat Iyer, 6-2, 6-2, at one. Blas Moros dropped Alex Sidney at three, 6-4, 6-1. Pecor rolled past Nguyen, 6-2, 6-1, at four.

In the lone three-setter of the afternoon, Michael Moore defeated Luu, 6-2, 1-6, 6-1, at five to claim the win for the Irish.

Contests at three doubles and two and six singles were stopped with the doubles point and ultimately the match decided.

The Irish have now picked up six ranked wins this season.

Notre Dame (10-6) returns to Eck Tennis Pavilion at 4 p.m. Wednesday when they welcome in defending national champion and No. 2 USC. Fans can follow the match through live stats on UND.com.
