SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The 24th-ranked Notre Dame Women’s Tennis team fought against the 15th-ranked NC State Wolfpack Sunday at the Eck Tennis Pavilion, but came up short at the end, losing 2-4. It was the first loss at home and in nearly a month for the Irish.
No. 109 Akari Matsuno got a huge win at No. 1 singles, taking gown No. 30 Michaela Laki 6-1, 6-0 in dominating fashion. Nibi Ghosh also got a singles win, taking the 7-6 (), 6-4 victory at No. 4 singles. The Irish forced extra sets on two of the other courts.
Notre Dame got a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles from the duo of Rylie Hanford/Akari Matsuno in the early session, but the Irish fell just short on the other two courts.
Notre Dame will be off this weekend before heading to Florida to take on Miami on the 14th and Florida State on the 16th.
