WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The No. 27 University of Notre Dame men’s tennis team took down William & Mary, 6-1, in a Saturday matinee at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center.
Notre Dame improves to 11-7 and travels to Ball State next Monday (April 1) for a 2 p.m. match in Muncie, Ind.
The Irish jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a close doubles victory. At three Ryan Bandy and Matt Dooley took down John Banks and Ben Hoogland, 8-6, while at two No. 69 Alex Lawson and Billy Pecor topped Ben Guthrie and Scott Huang, 8-5, to lock up the early lead.
In singles Notre Dame won at one, five and three to clinch the win. No. 96 Greg Andrews breezed past Anton Andersson at one, 6-2, 6-0. Senior Michael Moore followed next with a similar 6-2, 6-0 win over Scott Huang at five. Senior co-captain Blas Moros sealed the victory with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Adrian Vodislav at three.
With the match determined, the Irish won matches at two and four and the Tribe claimed victory at six. Picking up the other two Notre Dame wins were Quentin Monaghan and Billy Pecor. Monaghan defeated Aaron Chaffee at two, 6-2, 6-1, and Pecor bested Hoogland at four, 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-7).
