CHICAGO –
The third-ranked Irish women’s tennis team improved to 19-4 overall and 3-0 in BIG EAST action after handing Marquette a 7-0 defeat Sunday in Chicago.
Notre Dame earned their first point after sweeping all three doubles matches. Kristy Frilling teamed up with Kali Krisik to defeat Kylie Moore and Paola Calderon, 8-0 at first doubles. Colleen Rielley and Shannon Mathews downed Robin Metzler and Christina Ruiz, 8-2, at No. 2 doubles, while Katie Potts and Cosmina Ciobanu edged Gillian Hush and Rachael Hush, 8-6, at third doubles to complete the sweep.
No. 36 Frilling downed Olga Fischer, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 1 singles. Ciobanu notched a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Christina Ruiz at second singles, while Mathews defeated Moore, 6-1, 6-3 at third singles.
Krisik topped Rachael Hush, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4 singles, Kristen Rafael knocked off Gillian Hush, 6-2, 6-3 at fifth singles and Potts bested Elly Strother, 6-0, 6-0 at sixth singles.
The Irish will wrap up their final regular-season road swing at Illinois Tuesday.
