SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Before the Irish (9-2) head home for the holidays, the nation’s No. 3 team hosts Loyola (MD) (5-4) for a noon contest on Sunday.
Notre Dame is coming off of a historic week in Purcell Pavilion. On Dec. 12, the Irish downed No. 2 UConn for the third straight season and earned their third victory over a top-five team this season, the most ever in a Notre Dame regular season. It was also Notre Dame’s fifth straight win over an AP top-five opponent in as many tries, the group becoming the first men’s or women’s NCAA team to beat five consecutive top-five teams by double-digits.
On Sunday, Notre Dame beat Eastern Michigan, 118-49. The 118 points are the fifth-most in a single game in program history and the 69-point margin of victory is the eighth-largest in program history. The charge was led by Emma Risch’s 7-9 showing from deep on the day, and the sophomore finished with a career-high 23 points.
Loyola’s last game was Dec. 7, and the Greyhounds fell to Mount St. Mary’s, 65-48. They are playing without Patriot League Preseason Player of the Year Lex Therien, who has missed the last six games. Kimmie Hicks is the leading scorer (14.6), and Koi Sims leads the team in rebounds (10.6).
Notre Dame is 3-0 all-time against Loyola. Sunday’s game tips off at noon on ACCNX.
