No. 5 Notre Dame Ready For Showdown At No. 7 Maryland

THE MARYLAND SERIES

• Saturday will be the 13th meeting all-time between Notre Dame and Maryland. The Irish and Terrapins are tied at 6-6 in the matchup.

• The Irish came out on top last season, winning a 14-13 thriller in OT in Loftus Sports Center. Brian Willetts scored the game-winning goal to give the Irish the win.

CORRIGAN REACHES HISTORIC MILESTONE

• Baumer Family Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach Kevin Corrigan became just the third coach in NCAA Division I men’s lacrosse history to reach the 300-win mark at a single school with the win over Marquette on April 10, 2019.

• Corrigan is one of just four active Division I coaches to reach the 300-win mark in his career.

• Corrigan has an overall record of 315-161 in his 34 seasons of coaching.

• The head coach is 305-146 in his 32 seasons at Notre Dame.

• Corrigan is the longest tenured men’s lacrosse coach at the DI level.

COSTABILE CLOSING IN ON HISTORY

• Senior Bryan Costabile is coming off the most prolific goal-scoring season by an Irish midfielder in program history, setting a record with 42 goals.

• Costabile was named the 2019 ACC Offensive Player of the Year and was a unanimous first team All-America selection.

• The midfielder has 93 career goals, ranking 11th in program history.

• Costabile is set to become just the ninth Notre Dame player to reach the 100-career goal mark and is 18 goals shy of becoming the program record-holder for career goals by a midfielder. The mark is currently held by Irish great Sergio Perkovic (110 goals).

• The senior currently has 108 career points, and is just seven shy of breaking into the top 20 of Notre Dame’s career points list.

• Costabile has been selected as a unanimous preseason first team All-American heading into the 2020 campaign and is on the Tewaaraton Watch List.

FANTASTIC FEBRUARYS FOR THE FIGHTING IRISH

• Notre Dame is 30-2 in its last 32 games played in February dating back to the 2006 season.

• Fighting Irish head coach Kevin Corrigan is 39-5 in the month of February during his Notre Dame tenure.

• The Irish are 2-0 this season in February, defeating Cleveland State and #18/17 Richmond.

NOTRE DAME VS. TOP-10 TEAMS

• Notre Dame is 38-32 against teams ranked in the top 10 in the USILA Coaches Poll since the start of the 2008 season, including a mark of 5-5 in 2019.

• The Irish are 15-15 since 2012 against teams ranked in the top five in the USILA Coaches Poll.

• Notre Dame had five wins last season against teams ranked in the top 10 at the time of the game, defeating No. 2 Maryland (3/3/19), No. 8 Denver (3/9/19), No. 8 Syracuse (3/30/19), No. 3 Duke (4/27/19) and No. 10 Johns Hopkins (5/12).

• Notre Dame has never shied away from putting together a challenging schedule and the 2020 slate is no different.

• Of Notre Dame’s 12 regular-season opponents, nine are currently ranked in both the USILA and Inside Lacrosse Top 20 Polls.

• The Irish ace scheduled to face four opponents currently ranked in the top eight.

INSTANT IMPACT

• The Irish start two freshmen through two games of the 2020 season, as Pat Kavanagh has been a mainstay in attack and Liam Entenmann is between the pipes.

• Kavanagh leads the Irish in points (12), goals (7) and assists (5) through two games.

• Entenmann has been equally impressive, recording eight saves in each of his starts, while allowing just seven goals.

THE X-FACTOR

• Senior FOGO Charlie Leonard has picked up right where he left off last season to begin the 2020 campaign, winning 28-of-35 faceoffs (80.0%) through two games.

• The senior was named to the USILA Team of the Week after going 19-for-20 in the win over #18/17 Richmond, scooping up 10 GBs and adding an assist.

• Leonard won 220-of-376 face-offs (58.5%) last year as the primary FOGO for the Irish and scored seven goals and added two assists.

• Leonard was named to the All-ACC Team for the first time in his career in 2019 and led the league in ground balls per game with an average of 6.5.

BALANCED ATTACK

• Despite Costabile drawing most of the attention from a national perspective, the Irish have goal scorers all over the field.

• All six of Notre Dame’s starters in the attack and midfield scored goals in the first half in the season-opening win over Cleveland State.

• The Irish had 10 players combine to score 17 goals in the win over Cleveland State.

• Seven different players found the back of the net in the win over #18/17 Richmond.
