SOUTH BEND, Ind. — As the Notre Dame diving program continues to trend in the right direction, the Irish have added a new head coach to propel it even further.
On Monday, Peterson Family Head Coach Chris Lindauer announced the addition of Josh Arndt to his staff as the new head diving coach.
“We are thrilled to add Josh to our staff!” Lindauer said. “He brings a wealth of experience in diving at the highest level. His commitment to the student-athlete experience was evident throughout the hiring process, and we are excited for him to bring a new perspective to our staff and team!”
Arndt arrives in South Bend with an impressive list of accolades. He was most recently at Virginia as the head diving coach and was a part of the last two NCAA national championships the Cavaliers have won. While in Charlottesville, Arndt helped coach Elizabeth Kaye to an eighth-place finish in the 3-meter at NCAA Championships to become the first Cavalier diver to earn First Team All-America honors.
Prior to UVA, Arndt spent three years as the head diving coach at UConn and was named Big East Women’s Diving Coach of the Year in two of those three seasons. Arndt began his coaching career at UMass and was twice named the Atlantic 10 Women’s Diving Coach of the Year while sending a diver to NCAA Championships both years.
“I am incredibly excited to join the Notre Dame family,” Ardnt said. “Growing up in the area, I have always held the University in high regard. I am honored and look forward to the opportunity to build alongside these phenomenal student-athletes and this staff.”
Arndt spent his college days just down the road at Indiana University and is a native of La Porte, Ind. While diving for the Hoosiers, he was a 2016 All-American and also qualified for Olympic Trials that year. He placed sixth in the 1-meter at the 2015 USA Diving Nationals and was a two-time U.S. National Championship finalist.
