SOUTH BEND, Ind. — The full University of Notre Dame football schedule for the 2022 season is now official — with a six-game Irish home slate that features games against Marshall, Cal, Stanford, UNLV, Clemson and Boston College.
In 2022, the Irish will play road games at Ohio State, North Carolina, Syracuse and Southern Cal. They also will play BYU at Allegiant Field in Las Vegas (home of the Las Vegas Raiders) and Navy at M&T Bank Stadium (home of the Baltimore Ravens).
Notre Dame will face UNLV and Marshall for the first time in school history, while its meeting with Cal will be the first between the two schools since 1967.
The Irish will open with a true road game for the third time in the last four years. It will mark the seventh all-time meeting between the Irish and the Buckeyes and Notre Dame’s first trip to Columbus since 1995. Dick Corbett Head Football Coach Marcus Freeman will square off with his alma mater in his first regular season game as head coach.
Notre Dame will travel to face the Tar Heels for the ninth time in program history, having won back-to-back games at Kenan Memorial Stadium.
The Irish will play in two different NFL stadiums this year (Allegiant Stadium and M&T Bank), marking the fourth time in the last 10 years they have played in multiple NFL stadiums during the regular season. It will be the 11th and 12th different NFL stadium the Irish have played in the past 10 years. It will also be the first-ever game for Notre Dame in the state of Nevada.
Notre Dame will travel to Syracuse for just the third time in school history and the first time since the 2003 season.
Over the course of the five seasons (2018-22), the Irish will have played regular-season games in 14 different states from coast to coast — including five games in California, four in North Carolina, four in Virginia, and two each in Illinois, Georgia and New York. The Irish will also play games in six of the top 10 metropolitan television markets in the country — Los Angeles (two), Chicago (two), San Francisco-Oakland-San Jose (two), Atlanta, New York and Boston. Notre Dame is also scheduled to play in Dublin, Ireland, in 2023.
In addition, those five years include 23 combined regular-season games against 13 different teams that ranked in the Associated Press Top 25 at some point in 2021 — four versus USC, three each versus Virginia Tech and North Carolina, two each versus Clemson, Michigan and Pitt, plus one each versus Ohio State, Georgia, Cincinnati, Wisconsin, BYU, Wake Forest and Purdue.
Notre Dame remains the only active college football program to ever play in Chicago, New York and Los Angeles in the same season. The Irish, who last accomplished the feat in 2018, have played in the United State’s three largest markets in the same year nine times.
