SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame Athletic Department has announced the Advanced Opportunity Athletics Administration Fellowship program. The program’s first fellow is Notre Dame alumnus, Jubril Dawodu (’18). He will begin his position this month and the fellowship will be a 24-month position.
The goal of the Advanced Opportunity Athletics Administration Fellow is to empower and develop minorities who aspire to be leaders in athletic administration. As part of his role, Dawodu will have the opportunity to engage with student-athletes, coaches, athletic administrators and other campus partners in a wide variety of events, activities and projects for the athletic department. He will contribute to the department’s success while receiving real-time learning experiences.
Dawodu’s position will provide valuable insight into how each unit contributes to the overall success of Notre Dame Athletics. The Fellowship program will attend meetings with athletic administrators and coaches, observing the ways in which internal and external communication and decision-making impact student-athletes and the department.
In his position, Dawodu will gain valuable experiences by rotating in the areas of competitive excellence, sport operations, media and brand, corporate relations, legal and business operations. There will be opportunities to work on department-specific projects with the goal of growing leadership skills and providing valuable resources for the department. He will also be provided with professional development and mentoring opportunities throughout the entire program.
Dawodu is no stranger to South Bend, having completed his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Notre Dame in May of 2018. During his time on campus, he represented Notre Dame as a member of the Cheerleading program.
Since his graduation, he has gained professional experience working with Spurs Sports and Entertainment. With Spurs Sports and Entertainment, he worked as part of the corporate relations team in the spring of 2019, researching and planning for strategic facility and franchise development opportunities, as well as working with state and local government to inform and influence political leadership on issues that impact the organization. In the fall of 2019, he transitioned to a game operations role where he worked directly with three professional teams in the creation, planning and execution of all elements as it relates to game presentation while conducting market research and tracking in-game content.
