TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Using a second-round score of 299 (+11), the University of Notre Dame women’s golf team climbed one spot to sit alone in seventh after the second round of the Seminole Match-Up on Saturday at Southwood Golf Course.
“The course conditions were very tough today,” stated Irish head coach Susan Holt. “It was both very windy and chilly. We tried to pick momentum up on the back nine and we gave up the final three holes. Our goal each and every tournament is to finish in the top five and I think we are on pace to accomplish that tomorrow.”
Oklahoma (582, +6) moved into the lead at the tournament following a second round 284 (-4), marking the lone under-par round by any team to this point. Georgia’s Rocio Sanchez Lobato and Furman’s Laura Wearn share the individual lead at four-under par (140).
Lindsey Weaver (Scottsdale, Ariz.) leads the way among the Irish after carding a second day 73 (+1). The talented freshman played the opening nine holes at one-under par following back-to-back birdies on holes 16 and 17. She concluded the round with a birdie, a bogey, a double bogey and six pars over the final nine. Overall, Weaver is tied for eighth at 145 (+1).
The low round for Notre Dame went the way of fellow freshman Talia Campbell (Dallas, Texas). Campbell, who was not counted toward the team score Friday, posted three birdies, three bogeys and 12 pars to finish her second round with a 72 (E). Overall, she climbed 26 spots on the individual leaderboard, bumping up from a tie for 52nd into a share of 26th at 152 (+8).
Ashley Armstrong (Flossmore, Ill.) sits one shot ahead of Campbell after 36 holes with a 151 (+7). The sophomore finished her second round with four bogeys, a double bogey and 12 pars, but was able to post a red number on the day with a birdie-2 on the sixth hole, her 15th hole of the day. Armstrong concluded the round with a 77 (+5).
Kristina Nhim (Cypress, Calif.) was the final score toward the team total, as she recorded an identical 77 (+5). The junior battled an up-and-down round, posting three birdies and nine pars, but she was hampered by four bogeys and two double bogeys. After 36 holes, Nhim is tied for 32nd overall at 153 (+9).
Kelli Oride (Lihue, Hawaii) struggled on day two, finishing with an 84 (+12) after carding eight bogeys, two double bogeys and eight pars. Overall, she is 59th at 162 (+18).
Notre Dame tees up its final round at the Seminole Match-Up at 9:00 a.m. (ET) Sunday in a shotgun start. The Irish will pair with Texas-San Antonio and Kansas in the third round, and start play on holes nine through 12.
