INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Danielle Green scored a career-high 23 points and grabbed five rebounds to lead No. 11 Notre Dame to a 71-60 win over Butler on Wednesday night.
The Irish (2-0) jumped out to an 11-0 lead in the game’s opening minutes. Butler (1-1) stormed back to cut Notre Dame’s lead to six late in the first half before the Irish built their lead back to 31-22 at the break.
Green, who led all scorers, did most of the early damage for the visitors, scoring 15 of her points in the first half. The senior scored the last 12 points of the period for Notre Dame.
Butler came back in the second half, getting within three points, 48-45, with just under 10 minutes to play.
But Irish senior Sheila McMillen scored six points to lead a 12-2 run to extend Notre Dame’s lead to 13 points. The Bulldogs got no closer than six points after that.
McMillen added 14 and Ruth Riley 13 for the Irish. Notre Dame’s Kelley Simeon led both teams with nine rebounds.
Senior Jennifer Marlow had 18 for Butler, with 14 of those coming in the second half. Julie Schrader added 12 points and seven rebounds and Kelly Kuhn scored 10 for the Bulldogs.
