NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Notre Dame volleyball team will face Ohio in the opening round of the 2009 NCAA Tournament announced Sunday on ESPNEWS. Michigan will host the first and second rounds of action at Cliff Keen Arena this Friday (Dec. 4) and Saturday (Dec. 5).
After making 15 consecutive trips to the NCAAs from 1992-2006, Notre Dame (21-6 overall, 14-0 BIG EAST Conference) returns to the postseason event on the heels of winning the BIG EAST Conference regular season title. The Irish will face Ohio (26-6 overall, 15-1 Mid-American) on Dec. 4 at 5:30 p.m. (ET).
Positioned in the Stanford Regional, the host and 13th-seeded Wolverines will face Niagara in first-round action on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
The bottom half of Notre Dame’s bracket features Saint Mary’s (Calif.), UC Santa Barbara, Long Island and Stanford.
Ticket information for first and second round action at Cliff Keen Arena will be announced Monday.
The NCAA selection committee seeds the top 16 teams in the tournament. Penn State earned the top seed overall.
