SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Notre Dame men’s and women’s swimming and diving hit the road on Friday for the first time this season, traveling to Louisville to face the Cardinals. The No. 25 men (1-3) fell to No. 12 Louisville, 84-213, while the women (1-3) fell to No. 7 Louisville by the same score.
Notre Dame won three events on the day: Carli Cronk (200 fly — 1:55.70), Marcus Reyes-Gentry (100 back — 46.34) and Daniel Knapp (1-meter — 351.83). Cronk’s time in the 200 fly was well under the NCAA cut of 1:57.11, and she also earned an NCAA cut in the 400 IM with a time of 4:12.25. The school record holder placed second in that event.
There were several other notable second-place finishes for the Irish on the evening. Freshman Emily Hamill continues to impress in the backstroke events, taking silver in both the 100 and 200 (1:57.07). U.S. National Team member Tommy Janton finished second in the 200 back for the men (1:44.28).
Outside of Knapp’s diving performance, sophomore Katie Raby took second in her specialty, the 10-meter platform, with a score of 247.88. Ben Nguyen placed second on the men’s side in the same event with a score of 335.55.
Up next, Notre Dame will head to two separate mid-year invitationals; the swimmers will compete at the Miami (OH) Invitational, while the divers will head to Texas for an invite as well.
