Notre Dame Finalizes 2005-06 Recruiting Class With Three More Commitments

July 17, 2006

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Notre Dame men’s lacrosse head coach Kevin Corrigan has recently announced the commitment of three more student-athletes to complete the 2005-06 recruiting class. Sam Barnes (Branford, Conn.), Trever Sipperly (Greenwich, N.Y.) and Will Yeatman (San Diego, Calif.) will join the Irish along with nine others, who committed back in the fall. Four of the newcomers hail from New York, two apiece from Pennsylvania, Maryland and Connecticut and one each from California and Georgia.

“I think this is an excellent class,” states Corrigan. “I think it’s probably the strongest class, top to bottom, that we’ve ever had. Almost every guy is a very good athlete in another sport. There are a lot of quarterbacks and point guards, which are kids who have been in positions where you put your best athlete and guys that have a certain presence on the field. That all adds up to great things for this class.”

Sam Barnes is a defenseman from Branford, Conn. He will add depth to the Irish defensive unit, which has ranked among the best in the nation over the past two years.

Corrigan on Barnes: “Sam is another big and athletic kid. He should really be able to bring a physical presence to our defense.”

Trever Sipperly is an excellent face-off midfielder from Greenwich, N.Y., where he has compiled 52 goals and 35 assists during his prep career. He received All-America honors in 2006. Sipperly also played for the Adirondack Empire Team in 2005.

Corrigan on Sipperly: “Trever is very athletic and he is from a lacrosse family and background. As he plays with and around top-notch players everyday, he should really blossom.”

Will Yeatman is one of the top prep lacrosse players in the nation. Yeatman will attend Notre Dame on a football scholarship along with playing lacrosse. He is a standout tight end as well as being a superb attackman. He was recently named a 2006 Under Armour All-American in lacrosse along with being tabbed an Inside Lacrosse `Young Gun’ and the San Diego Player of the Year. In 2005, Yeatman was named a US Lacrosse Boys High School All-American.

Corrigan on Yeatman: “Will has a chance to be one of the best lacrosse players in the nation. He is a very good athlete and he has a good sense of the game. That combination should make him a terrific college player.”
