Notre Dame Finishes Day One At Central District Invitational

LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. — The University of Notre Dame women’s golf team finished off the first two rounds of the Central District Invitational yesterday, hosted by Michigan State University at the Lakewood Ranch Cypress Course. The Irish ended the day in ninth place of the 13 competing teams.

As a team, the Irish finished with a score of 587, 11 above par and 30 strokes removed from the first team on the leaderboard, Central Florida.

Sophomore Talia Campbell opened the day up strong for Notre Dame, coming in at two below par in round one (36-34-70). She recorded two birdies and the only Irish eagle of the day. Campbell carded a score of 76 in the second round, leaving her with a total of 156 and tied for 26th place on the leaderboard.

Junior Ashley Armstrong came back in round two with her own two-below-par score of 70 after recording a 73 in the morning. Her total on the tournament currently sits at 143, one stroke below par, and she is tied for 15th place in the tournament. She recorded five birdies on the day, four of which came in her strong second round.

On the day, junior Kelli Oride came next on the leaderboard tied for 42nd place (76-74-155, +6). She had six birdies over the course of the first two rounds, the most of any Irish player. Senior Kristina Nhim and freshman Jordan Ferreira are both tied at 47th place after carding scores of 164 on the day.
