MESA, Ariz. — The University of Notre Dame women’s golf team finished in second place after three rounds of the Clover Cup this weekend. With a total score of 889 (299-296-294), the Irish were just one stroke behind the first-place finisher, Louisville.
“We were digging ourselves out of a hole from day one,” said head coach Susan Holt. “We almost did it. I was pleased overall with the effort. We are getting better each time we play, so that is encouraging.”
Especially impressive over the course of the weekend was the performance of senior Kristina Nhim. Nhim finished in first place overall in the individual standings after three great rounds in the tournament. Her final score was 213 (68-72-73), three below par.
“We’re really happy for Kristina to get her first win,” Holt said. “She played three solid rounds and is a deserving champion.”
Junior Ashley Armstrong and freshman Jordan Ferreira both also shot strong rounds of 72 (E) on the third day of the Clover Cup. Both athletes carded two birdies, and Ferreira only had one hole where she shot above par.
The team will get back in action later this week at the LSU Golf Classic. The three-day tournament will start Friday, Mar. 21.
“We are anxious to hit the road again for LSU after class on Wednesday,” Holt added.
