? The Notre Dame-Navy series is the longest intersectional rivalry in the country, playing every year since 1927.

? Notre Dame has defeated Navy for the 36th straight time and the 18th straight time at Notre Dame Stadium, dating back to a 1963 loss. Notre Dame’s 36-game winning streak is the longest winning streak by one team over the other in history of college football. The previous longest was Oklahoma’s 32 wins over Kansas State from 1937-68.

? Notre Dame improves to 24-1-0 in its last 25 games against the service academies.

? The Irish have won after a bye week for the eighth consecutive time.

? Before today, Navy had come within 10 points of Notre Dame on only four occasions during Notre Dame’s 36-game winning streak.

? Dating back to the LSU game in 1998, nine of the last 11 Notre Dame games have been decided by 10 points or less, six of those games by five points or less.

? Notre Dame now has a four-game winning streak, coming from behind in the second half in three of those games. Notre Dame rallied from 16-points down against Oklahoma (trailing 30-14 at halftime), 21 points down against USC (24-3 in the third quarter) and seven points (21-14 in the third quarter) against Navy.

? Navy committed three turnovers on the day. Coming into the game, Navy only had seven turnovers (five fumbles, two interceptions) on the season.

? Julius Jones recorded the first 100-yard game of his career, finishing with 19 carries for 146 yards. It is the most rushing yards since Autry Denson recorded 189 yards against Baylor in October 31, 1998. It is also the most rushing yards by a Notre Dame freshman since Jerome Heavens had 148 yards versus Georgia Tech in 1975.

? Notre Dame sophomore TB Terance Howard scored his first career touchdown on a 1-yard run with 8:09 remaining in the second quarter giving the Irish a 14-0 lead.

? Howard finished the day with a career-high 10 carries for 67 yards rushing. He also posted his career-high run of 20 yards early in the third quarter.

? Navy sophomore QB Brian Madden scored his first career touchdown with an 11-yard run in the second quarter making the score 14-7. Madden also had a 22-yard completion on the drive, a career-high. Last season, Madden was the starting QB on Navy’s junior varsity squad which finished with a perfect 7-0 record in games which Madden played.

? Brian Madden’s career-high 34 carries for 168 yards rushing is the most rushing yards given up to a Notre Dame opponent since Amos Zereoue of West Virginia had 32 carries for 234 yards on November 22, 1997.

? Navy senior S Chris Oliver recovered a Notre Dame blocked punt (Navy junior FS Chris Lepore had the block) in the endzone tying the score 14-14 with 1:07 to go in the second quarter. It was the first blocked punt for a touchdown by Navy since Robert Green returned a blocked punt 10 yards for a score October 16, 1993. It was the first punt Notre Dame has had blocked this season.

? Navy junior CB Davede Alexander caught his first career interception, returning it for a touchdown, with 5:01 to go in the third quarter giving Navy a 21-14 lead. The last time Navy returned an interception for a touchdown was October 18, 1997, when Gerald Wilson had a 95-yard return for a touchdown against VMI.

? Notre Dame committed 13 penalties for 130 yards, it tied the most penalties and was the most penalty yards of the last two decades. Notre Dame was penalized 11 times for 122 yards against Miami in 1980. Notre Dame was also penalized 13 times against Arizona State in 1998 and Air Force in 1985.

? Notre Dame senior QB Jarious Jackson’s 57-yard touchdown run with 4:08 to go in the third quarter, tying the score at 21-21, was the longest run of his career. His previous career best was 48 yards against Arizona State earlier this season.

? Jarious Jackson finished the day with 73 yards rushing. Notre Dame is 8-0 when Jackson has more than 60 yards rushing in a game.

? Notre Dame’s field-goal kicking woes continue as the Irish are now five-for-12 on the season after sophomore PK David Miller’s fourth-quarter field-goal attempt was blocked by Navy. The Irish have had two field-goal attempts blocked this season. Notre Dame also had a punt blocked in the game.

? Notre Dame senior FS Deke Cooper has had a hand in seven turnovers this season (three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and two interceptions.)

? With the win, Navy defeated the Irish for the first time since 1963 when Roger Staubach was the QB for the Midshipmen, ending Notre Dame’s 35-game winning streak. It ended the longest winning streak by one team over the other in the history of college football.
