? Notre Dame sophomore TB Terance Howard scored his first career touchdown on a 1-yard run with 8:09 remaining in the second quarter giving the Irish a 14-0 lead.
? Howard finished the day with a career-high 10 carries for 67 yards rushing. He also posted his career-high run of 20 yards early in the third quarter.
? Navy sophomore QB Brian Madden scored his first career touchdown with an 11-yard run in the second quarter making the score 14-7. Madden also had a 22-yard completion on the drive, a career-high. Last season, Madden was the starting QB on Navy’s junior varsity squad which finished with a perfect 7-0 record in games which Madden played.
? Brian Madden’s career-high 34 carries for 168 yards rushing is the most rushing yards given up to a Notre Dame opponent since Amos Zereoue of West Virginia had 32 carries for 234 yards on November 22, 1997.
? Navy senior S Chris Oliver recovered a Notre Dame blocked punt (Navy junior FS Chris Lepore had the block) in the endzone tying the score 14-14 with 1:07 to go in the second quarter. It was the first blocked punt for a touchdown by Navy since Robert Green returned a blocked punt 10 yards for a score October 16, 1993. It was the first punt Notre Dame has had blocked this season.
? Navy junior CB Davede Alexander caught his first career interception, returning it for a touchdown, with 5:01 to go in the third quarter giving Navy a 21-14 lead. The last time Navy returned an interception for a touchdown was October 18, 1997, when Gerald Wilson had a 95-yard return for a touchdown against VMI.
? Notre Dame committed 13 penalties for 130 yards, it tied the most penalties and was the most penalty yards of the last two decades. Notre Dame was penalized 11 times for 122 yards against Miami in 1980. Notre Dame was also penalized 13 times against Arizona State in 1998 and Air Force in 1985.
? Notre Dame senior QB Jarious Jackson’s 57-yard touchdown run with 4:08 to go in the third quarter, tying the score at 21-21, was the longest run of his career. His previous career best was 48 yards against Arizona State earlier this season.
