LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Notre Dame men’s swimming and diving team’s record fell to 3-4 in dual-meet action on the season Saturday at the Ralph Wright Natatorium after a 178-117 loss to BIG EAST Conference foe Louisville. The 16th-ranked Cardinals got off to a commanding start to open the meet and never looked back, but the Irish held strong with impressive diving performances to keep them in the hunt.

200 Medley Relay: Louisville got out to a lengthy advantage with the help of its backstrokers and never looked back while taking the first two spots … Notre Dame earned points behind the efforts of Mitchell Sherman, Marshall Sherman, Patrick Augustyn and David Anderson (1:37.06).
1,650 Free: Steven Brus (16:21.30) paced the field for the first half of the race, but ran out of gas after the midway point … Andrew Deters (16:15.49) held steady throughout the race for third.
200 Free: John Lytle (1:40.51) just missed out on first despite posting the fastest split of the race (52.24) … Andrew Hoffman (1:43.51) posted points with a fourth-place finish.
100 Back: Louisville held the first three positions on the leader board before Jeff Wood (52.99) tapped in first for Notre Dame … Michael Sullivan (53.12) was fifth.
100 Breast: Daniel Rave (1:00.26) was fourth and Joseph Raycroft (1:00.82) was fifth, as each scored points for the Irish.
200 Fly: The best Notre Dame swim in the event was turned in by MacKenzie LeBlanc … he was fourth in 1:55.65 … Christopher Wills (1:56.04) and Augustyn (1:58.55) were next in line.
50 Free: Anderson (21.86) touched first for Notre Dame … Thomas Van Volkenburg (22.01) and Kevin Rahill (22.39) came out of the water next.
100 Free: Behind a trio of Cardinals was Lytle (46.17) … Hoffman went 48.00.
200 Back: Holding strong was Michael Sullivan in his silver-medal effort with a mark of 1:51.48 … Wills was fourth in 1:54.96.
200 Breast: The first win of the day was registered by Rave (2:08.55) … he snuck ahead of Louisville’s Sergui Daghid (2:08.79) … Raycroft was third in 2:11.31.
500 Free: A strong showing by Wood (4:41.51) was good for second overall … Deters (4:46.32) was fifth and Brus (4:49.91) was sixth.
200 Individual Medley: Sullivan scored first-place points with a time of 1:55.42, and Bill Bauman scored second-place nods in 1:56.99.
400 Free Relay: The third-fastest time of the event came behind Lytle, Hoffman, Van Volkenburg and Joshua Nosal (3:10.98).
3-meter Diving: Caleb Dunnichay led the pack with a 369.30 … he led a trio of Irish divers heading the field, as Eric Lex (344.10) and Wesley Villaflor (317.77) took the next two spots.
1-meter Diving: With 329.54 points, Lex was first overall … behind him in the standings was Villaflor (321.82), Dunnichay (311.55) and Nathan Geary (280.34).
