South Orange, N.J. – The Notre Dame men’s soccer team suffered its second overtime loss of the season as the Irish dropped a 1-0 overtime decision to Seton Hall in a BIG EAST Conference match.
Phil Swenda scored the game-winner from five yards out at the 96:45 mark off an assist from teammate Alim Ibrogimov. With the loss, the Irish drop to 3-4-0 and 1-2-0 in the BIG EAST, while the Pirates improve to 5-1-1 and 3-0-0 in league play.
Freshman goalkeeper Chris Sawyer (Highlands Ranch, Colo,), making his second straight start and playing in his third career game, registered a career-high seven saves in the game. Seton Hall goalie Alex McDonald had five saves in the shutout.
Notre Dame was outshot 15-11 in the game by the Pirates, but owned a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks.
The Irish return to action on Fri., Oct. 5 when they play host to Georgetown on Alumni Field at 7:30 p.m.
