SOUTH BEND, Ind. – An homage to the town that supports and houses the Notre Dame men’s and women’s basketball programs.
On Thursday, the Fighting Irish basketball programs announced a new black and gold jersey, “The Bend.” A jersey that pays tribute to the characteristics and history of South Bend.
TYING IN TO OUR TOWN
- The “Bend” script across the chest, which was inspired by the marquee “South Bend” wall on the side of Madison Oyster Bar in the heart of downtown.
- The numbers – a custom font inspired by classic Studebaker cars, which got their start here in South Bend.
- The side of the shorts – the lines running up the side of the uniform pull directly from the South Bend flag, which gives a nod to the St. Joseph River. South Bend was named because of its geographic location at the southernmost bend of the St. Joseph River.
- The finishing touch was the South Bend city flag represented on the waistband of the shorts.
To get your first glimpse of The Bend jerseys, check out Irish Jam presented by Under Armour on Friday, October 3, at Eddy Street Commons. The event is free and open to the public.
Community programming will take place from 12-5 p.m. The Irish Jam main event with the Irish basketball programs starts promptly at 6 p.m.
Furthermore, The Bend retail line will be made available Friday morning starting at 9 a.m. ET, both online and at the Notre Dame bookstores.
