SOUTH BEND, Ind. — No. 18 Notre Dame (11-3, 2-2) will close out three consecutive home games on Sunday by hosting Miami (11-4, 1-3) at Purcell Pavilion.
The Irish are coming off of a dominant victory over Boston College on Thursday. The 98-48 win (50-point margin of victory) is tied for Notre Dame’s third-largest margin of victory in a conference game since the Irish joined the ACC a decade ago.
Also of note, Thursday’s game was the first time since Nov. 15 that both Sonia Citron and Maddy Westbeld were able to play together. Citron missed several weeks with a knee sprain, while Westbeld missed the UNC game with a concussion. Westbeld posted her seventh double-double of the year against Boston College, scoring 15 and grabbing 15 boards.
When Citron, Westbeld and star freshman Hannah Hidalgo are playing together, good things happen for Notre Dame. The Irish have a 31.5 point differential, 50.5 field goal percentage and are scoring 95.8 points per game in those contests. They’ll look to continue that dominant run on Sunday.
Miami has struggled in the ACC so far this year, losing three of its first four conference games. Most recently, the Hurricanes lost at Virginia Tech on Thursday, 76-52. Miami is led in scoring by Jasmyne Roberts (11.3). She is the only one averaging double-figures for a scoring offense that ranks 12th in the ACC.
The Hurricanes don’t miss often (46.0 field goal percentage), but when they do, they’re often grabbing the offensive boards. Miami is averaging 13.5 offensive rebounds per game, which ranks 68th in the nation.
Sunday’s game tips off at noon on the CW. Tom Werme and Kelley Deyo will be on the call. Deyo (née Simeon) was a star guard for the Irish from 1997-01. Notre Dame is 24-6 all-time against Miami and 11-2 at home.
