Notre Dame Shuts Down DePaul

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Notre Dame Softball team kept the DePaul Blue Demons off the scoreboard Tuesday evening at Melissa Cook Stadium, winning 8-0 in six innings. The Irish are now 19-21-1 on the season and have won their past three midweek home games.

Addison Amaral got Notre Dame started with a bang, blasting a three-run homer to left field after back-to-back walks by Emily Tran and Caroline O’Brien to leadoff the bottom of the first. It was the seventh home run of the season for Amaral. The Irish shortstop leads the team with 36 RBI on the season after recording a season-best four RBI today.

Shannon Becker made her 5th start of the season and was magnificent. The senior notched three strikeouts in four innings and limited traffic on the basepaths to improve to 5-2 on the season. Kami Kamzik came in relief and continued the dominance in the circle, striking out three in two innings. It was the sixth shutout of the season for Notre Dame.

Both O’Brien and Rachel Allen extended their hit streaks to eight games each. O’Brien bounced a single up the middle to drive in two during the bottom of the fourth while Allen found a hole in the left side for a single in the fourth inning as well.

With tomorrow’s game being postponed due to weather, Notre Dame will turn its focus to this weekend when the Irish head to Blacksburg, Virginia to take on the 12th-ranked Hokies in a three-game series.
