EVANSTON, Ill. — The University of Notre Dame women’s fencing team continued its undefeated season after going 4-0 at the Northwestern Invitational Sunday at Patten Gym. The Irish defeated Northwestern (15-12), Tufts (19-8), Denison (27-0) and Long Island (18-9) to improve to 11-0 as a team this season.
In the opening match against Northwestern, the Irish trailed 10-7 before winning five straight bouts to regain the lead en route to a 15-12 win over the Wildcats. The other three matches were in control for the Irish, included a perfect 27-0 win over Denison in their third match of the day.
The foil and epee squads both put together a team-best 28-8 record through the four matches. Freshman Rebeca Candescu led the way with a team-high nine wins. Three Irish put together perfect records on the afternoon including Sienna Wilson (7-0), Amita Berthier (4-0) and Miriam Grady (4-0). Candescu and Tianji Lukins (5-2) both made their collegiate debuts for the Irish.

The Irish will be back on the strip for their final meet of the fall semester on Saturday, December 5. They will travel to Ohio State for the Elite Invitational.
