The Notre Dame men?s and women?s tennis teams lost 28-20 to Mississippi to finish sixth out of 16 teams at the WingspanBank.com/WORLD TEAM TENNIS National Collegiate Championships Stanford University. The team of Michelle Dasso, Trent Miller, Ryan Sachire and Kelly Zalinski beat Tennessee 29-19 late Saturday night to advance to the winners? bracket consolation final against Mississippi.
Ole Miss won the first three sets, including two in tiebreakers, to build an 18-14 lead. Dasso beat Ivona Mihailova 6-4 to pull the Irish within 22-20 heading into the final set. Mihailova and Vikrant Chada secured the win for Mississippi with a 6-0 win in mixed doubles.
Against the Volunteers late Saturday night, the Irish a tiebreaker at women?s singles to start the match but then won the last five sets to beat Tennessee 29-19. Sachire turned a 5-6 deficit into an 11-9 lead with his 6-3 singles wins. He then teamed with Miller for a 6-4 win in men?s doubles. Dasso?s 6-1 helped the Irish pull away for a 23-14 win. She and Miller won a tiebreaker at mixed doubles to close out the win.
