MESA, Ariz. — After the first day and 18 holes of the Clover Cup, the University of Notre Dame women’s golf team finds itself tied for third place in a field of 15 teams. The team posted a cumulative score of 299, 11 above par and only seven behind the first place team of Colorado.

Despite some strong individual performances, head coach Susan Holt says that she is looking for more consistency from her team in the second two rounds of the tournament.

“The bright spot is that we didn’t play that well overall and are still within striking distance with two rounds to go,” Holt says. “I am excited to see this team put it all together over the weekend.”

The strongest performance of the day came from senior Kristina Nhim, who shot her best round of the year with a four-below-par score of 68. The senior had five birdies over the course of the round and only one hole in which she went above par. Not only was Nhim the best golfer for the Irish, but she is currently in first place of all the athletes in the tournament.

“Kristina played a solid round of golf today,” Holt says. “She made a nice run on holes 10, 11 and 12 and was able to get a great round on the board today.”

Holt is also certain to point out that junior Ashley Armstrong also helped out the Irish today after a tough first couple holes. She finished the day tied for eighth place with a score of 73 (+1).

Tee times for round two begin at 8:00 a.m. tomorrow, with junior Kelli Oride kicking things off for the Irish at 9:30 from hole 1. Results will be posted here at UND.com and can also be found live on Golfstat.
