WILMINGTON, N.C. — The Notre Dame women’s golf team repeated their second day score of 305 today in the final round the Landfall Tradition at the Country Club of Landfall. The Irish finished the tournament in a three-way tie for 11th place with Ohio State and North Carolina with a score of 924 (314-305-305) on the Pete Dye designed layout.
Going into the weekend, head coach Susan Holt said that the key to improving Notre Dame’s performance was having solid consistency from her players. While this weekend’s finish was an improvement from the Tar Heel Invitational two weeks ago, the Irish are still not where Holt knows they can be.
“Finishing in a tie for 11th is not what we were hoping for,” Holt says. “We played well above our stroke average for this tournament, so that was disappointing for sure. We missed an opportunity once again to get some top-25 wins. We only beat Iowa State–ranked 15 of the top 25 teams in the field. We still lacked a solid team effort. To be competitive, we need four scores every day.”
Junior Ashley Armstrong was this weekend’s strongest performer for the Irish. She finished the weekend with a score of 224 (74-74-76), only eight above par. Individually, she tied for 16th place.
Holt remarked that Armstrong and freshman Jordan Ferreira were the two solid performers of the weekend. Ferreira improved upon her score every day, carding a 73 (+1) in the final round to tie for 32nd place with a final score of 229 (81-75-73).
“Jordan certainly learned from each round and was able to make the necessary adjustments and get better each day,” Holt says. “That was encouraging to see.”
Senior Kristina Nhim finished with a final score of 236 (78-77-81) to tie for 61st place. Sophomore Talia Campbell and junior Kelli Oride carded the same score all three days of the tournament, finished at 238 (81-79-78) and in a tie for 70th place.
This marks the end of the women’s golf fall season. They will not play again until the Florida State Match-Up in mid-February.
