Last Time Out
The Irish ended regular season conference play on a high note this past Sunday with their win over Duke.
Notre Dame jumped out to an early lead thanks to stellar play from its defense. After allowing the first goal of the game to Duke, the Irish shut down the Blue Devils for the rest of the half.
During that time, they scored six-straight goals and took a 6-1 lead into the half. The Irish held Duke to their lowest goal total in any half this season. Samantha Giacolone made six saves on seven shots she faced in the opening 30 minutes.
In the second half, Duke came all the way back to tie the game twice but the Irish always had an answer. With the game tied at 9-9 and under three minutes remaining, the Irish forced a high shot from Duke and Hannah Proctor beat the Blue Devils to the end line for possession.
After a timeout, Maddie Howe forced a shooting space violation and an opportunity for the Irish to take the lead. After the ball got knocked loose on the free position attempt, Savannah Buchanan was able to scoop it up and beat Jamie Lockwood with 31.4 seconds remaining.
Duke won the next draw control but Giacolone was able to deflect their last-second shot away to secure the 10-9 win.
Maddie Howe was the offensive leader once again Sunday against Duke. She scored a game-high four goals which tied her career high. It was the fifth time this season she has scored four goals in a game. She currently ranks fourth all-time in school history for most points by a freshman (34 goals, 12 assists).
Buchanan and Andie Aldave had the task of going up against the top draw specialist in the country in Duke’s Olivia Jenner. They limited her to a season-low four draws on the afternoon. Aldave had a game-high five and Buchanan tallied four of her own. Aldave also tied a career high with three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Scouting the Great Danes
Albany holds a 6-7 record heading into tomorrow’s game. The Great Danes are currently riding a six-game win streak and are 5-0 in America East play. Kendra Harbinger and Emma Powlin lead the Great Danes with 34 goals and Powlin leads the team with 47 points.
This will be the first meeting all-time between the two schools and just the second opponent the Irish have faced from the America East Conference.
