Pable Sets Program Record in Hammer Throw at Penn Relays; Irish in Action at Jim Freeman/Clark Wood Invitational and the GVSU Extra Weekend Meet

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame track and field team was in action at three different meets this weekend. The Irish competed at the legendary Penn Relays, the Jim Freeman/Clark Wood Invitational hosted by the University of Louisville and the Extra Weekend Meet hosted by Grand Valley State University.
Penn Relays
Benjamin Pable made Notre Dame history at the Penn Relays as he set the program record in the hammer with a throw of 67.27m (220’8”). This is Pable’s best hammer throw of the season. This ranks 23rd in all of the NCAA Division I and puts him 10th on the 2026 NCAA Division I East Outdoor List.
His performance earned him a second-place finish in the Men’s Hammer Throw Championship at the Penn Relays. Obiora Okeke finished 7th in the same event with a personal best throw of 63.79m (209’3”). This performance ranks Okeke fifth all-time in program history in the hammer throw. This puts him 32nd on the 2026 NCAA Division I East Outdoor List for the hammer.
Okeke finished third in the Men’s Shot Put Championship with a mark of 18.86m (61’ 10 ½”). He finished fourth in the discus with a throw of 56.25m (184’6”).
Isabelle Esler finished seventh in the Women’s Javelin Throw Championship with a throw of 45.68m (149’ 10”)
Julia Reglewski finished ninth in the Women’s Shot Put with a throw of 14.06m (46’ 1 ½”).
Jim Freeman/Clark Wood Invitational
Lauren Huber, Kate McGuinness and Ellis Weekley all competed in the heptathlon in Louisville, Kentucky, over the weekend.
Huber finished fifth overall with a score of 4394 points and McGuinness scored 3836 points and finished 11th.
Huber placed first in two events over the weekend. She finished first in the 800m with a personal best time of 2:09.26. She won the shot put with a throw of 12.81m (42’ 00.50”), which was her best throw of the season so far.
McGuinness’s best event was the shot put, where she finished seventh with a throw of 10.17m (33’ 04.50”).
Weekley’s best performance came in the 100m hurdles, where she finished fifth with a time of 14.33.
Jordyn Borsch and Remy Finn finished sixth and eighth in the women’s 400. Borsch placed sixth with a time of 54.98 while Finn posted a time of 55.16, finishing eighth.
Jack Ahart finished third in the 400m with a time of 46.75.
John Dearie ran a personal best time of 52.68, as he placed fourth in the 400-meter hurdles.
Jackson McDowell finished fourth in the men’s High jump with a time of 2.03m (6’08.00”).
GVSU Extra Weekend Meet
Cole Stehly won the men’s 800m while running a personal best time of 1:50.35. Ethan Walther finished fourth in the 800m with his best time of the season of 1:51.95.
Elena Rybak also had her best performance of the year in the 800m, finishing third with a time of 2:09.20.
The Irish placed first and second in the women’s 1500m (open). Rosie Mucharsky finished first with a personal best time of 4:17.84. Nicki Southerland finished second with a time of 4:27.31.
