Pat Walsh Named GWLL Player Of The Week

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Notre Dame senior attackman Pat Walsh (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) has been named the Great Western Lacrosse League Player of the Week for March 27-April 2. Walsh tallied two goals and assisted on six others as the eighth-ranked Fighting Irish captured wins over Brown, 11-5, and Dartmouth, 8-7. This is the second career GWLL Player of the Week honor for Walsh, who is the only three-time All-America honoree in program history.

Against Brown, Walsh produced a three-point game as he netted a goal and collected the assist on two more Irish scores. Walsh had a hand in five of Notre Dame’s eight scores against Dartmouth. The senior tallied a goal and collected four assists to help the Irish improve to 6-2 on the season. That marked the eighth time of his career that he registered four or more assists in a game. Earlier this season, he matched a career-high with five assists against North Carolina.

Walsh is third in Notre Dame history with 93 career assists and is 17 assists shy from tying David Ulrich’s school record of 110. The senior attackman is also fifth in Fighting Irish history with 163 points. He has led the GWLL in assists his first three seasons at Notre Dame and he was also the 2004 and 2005 GWLL scoring champion. He is currently second in the league with 1.62 assists per game, trailing only Air Force’s Will Meister (1.78).

Walsh was named to the Tewaaraton Trophy `Watch List’ prior to this season along with being tabbed as a preseason second team All-American by Inside Lacrosse. His first-ever GWLL Player of the Week honor came after a six-goal performance in a 9-8 overtime win against Hofstra last season.

The Fighting Irish open GWLL play this Saturday with a trip to Butler to take on the Bulldogs at 1:00 p.m. (ET).
