TEAM NOTES

• Notre Dame is 0­2 all­time against NC State and 73­25 all­time against current members of the Atlantic Coast Conference.
• Notre Dame is 389­95­8 all­time in October and 19­6­0 under Brian Kelly.
• The 198 yards gained by NC State were the fewest allowed by the Irish defense this season.
• With NC State’s lone touchdown coming on special teams, the Notre Dame defense did not surrender a touchdown for the first time since the 2015 opener against Texas, a 38­3 Irish victory.
• The Irish defense came up big early, stopping NC State’s opening drive and preventing them from scoring a touchdown on the first drive at home for the first time in four games at Carter­Finley Stadium this year.
• The stop on NC State’s first drive came after the Wolfpack had driven to the ND eight­yard line before missing a 31­yard field goal. Irish opponents were scoring at a clip of 85.7% in the red zone entering the game. For the game, Notre Dame held NC State to just a field goal in three red zone trips.
• For the first time this season, Notre Dame did not score the first points of the game.
• The Irish trailed at the conclusion of the first quarter for the first time this season.
• The Irish defense recovered an opponent fumble for the first time this season.
• The game was sold out with the capacity of Carter­Finley at 58,200. Since 2014 contest at USC did not sell out, the only time Notre Dame has not played before a sold out crowd, home or away, was last weekend’s victory over Syracuse at MetLife Stadium, which was played before 62,794.

INDIVIDUAL NOTES

• Jerry Tillery recorded a career best nine total tackles.
• Daelin Hayes forced an opponent fumble for the first time in his career.
• Nyles Morgan recovered that fumble for his first career fumble recovery.
• Daniel Cage forced his first career fumble in the third quarter.
• James Onwualu recovered that fumble for his first career fumble recovery.
• Tyler Newsome bombed a 69­yard punt in the second quarter, flipping the field from an Irish drive which stalled out at their own 14­yard line, pushing the Wolfpack back to their own 17. It was just shy of Newsome’s 71­yard career long against Michigan State earlier this year. It was the 31st career punt of at least 50­yards for the junior.
