Radel Named to Pitcher of the Year Watch List

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Notre Dame junior pitcher Jack Radel has been named to the National Pitcher of the Year Watch List by the College Baseball Foundation.

Radel is part of a list that features 142 pitchers from 26 conferences on the early season watch list. The National Pitcher of the Year Award was first bestowed in 2009.

Earlier this season, Radel retired 38 consecutive batters over a span which included a perfect six-inning effort against UCF. He is in the top ten nationally in hits allowed per nine innings (3.52) and WHIP (0.61) and in the top 20 in total strikeouts (33) through the first month of the season. Radel also ranks among the nation’s leaders in strikeouts per nine innings (12.91) and strikeout-to-walk ratio (6.60).

The National Pitcher of the Week is one of four weekly awards presented by the College Baseball Foundation. The CBF also awards the Brooks Wallace Award, John Olerud Award and Buster Posey Collegiate Catcher of the Week.
