Radel Shines as Irish Blank Golden Grizzlies

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Jack Radel had another stellar start en route to the win on the hill as the Notre Dame baseball team earned a 2-0 win over visiting Oakland on Friday night.

Jack Radel wasted no time striking out the side in the top of the first on 11 pitches. Bino Watters laced a one-out single to right field, and Mark Quatrani was hit by a pitch to put a pair on for the Irish. Noah Coy was then hit by a pitch to load the bases. Jayce Lee then delivered a single through the left side to plate the first run of the game.

Radel repeated his first inning effort with a three-up, three-down effort in the second all via strikeout. Radel had his third consecutive three-up, three-down inning in the top of the third to retire the Golden Grizzlies in order. The junior righty added another perfect inning in the fourth to retire the first 12 batters he faced in the contest.

Andrew Graham hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth to double the Irish lead at 2-0.

The Golden Grizzlies got a runner on via an error and added a bunt single in the top of the fifth, but Radel induced a fielder’s choice grounder and struck out the next batter to keep Oakland off the scoreboard.

Dylan Singleton posted three shutout innings and struck out a pair while allowing just one hit. Noah Rooney came in to close out the game and capped off a shutout ninth inning with a strikeout to earn his fifth save of the season.

Jayce Lee was 1-for-3 with an RBI, and Andrew Graham was 1-for-4 with a solo home run. Bino Watters was 1-for-4 with a double and scored a run. Noah Coy, Dylan Passo and Brandon Logan each added a hit.

Jack Radel earned the win on the mound after going 5.0 complete with nine strikeouts, no walks, no runs and one single allowed. Dylan Singleton was solid in relief with three innings of shutout pitching, and Noah Rooney had a strikeout with the save.
