Former Notre Dame quarterback Ralph Guglielmi is one of 15 former players and three former coaches recently named to the National Football Foundation’s College Football Hall of Fame. He will be inducted in December at the 44th annual banquet at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York and will be enshrined in August 2002 ceremonies in South Bend at the College Football Hall of Fame.
Guglielmi is the 39th former Notre Dame player (plus five former coaches) to be selected for the Hall of Fame and the seventh former Irish quarterback to earn the honor.
Guglielmi earned unanimous All-America honors and finished fourth in voting for the Heisman Trophy in ’54 after completing 68 of 127 passes for 1,160 yards and six touchdowns – ranking fourth nationally in passing yards. In his three seasons as a starter, the Irish compiled a 25-3-2 record.
The Columbus, Ohio, product remains tied with Rick Mirer for the Notre Dame record for consecutive games with a pass completion (34). He’s now living in Potomac, Md., after retiring as general manager of an auto dealership.
