NOTRE DAME, Ind. – University of Notre Dame junior women’s swimmer Sofia Revilak will represent Mexico during the 23rd Central American and Caribbean Games, to be held from July 19 through August 3 in Barranquilla, Colombia. Revilak was one of 12 women’s swimmers chosen to represent Mexico at the event.
Revilak, a native of Mexico City, qualified in three events for the Central American and Caribbean Games, the 50-meter freestyle, the 100-meter freestyle and as a member of the 4X100-meter freestyle relay. She finished as the 50-meter freestyle runner-up in qualifying at the Arena Grand Prix de Natacion Senior meet last week in Tijuana, Baja California, swimming a time of :26.50. She added a third-place time of :57.25 to qualify in the 100-meter freestyle.
Revilak will compete in the 100-meter freestyle on July 21 at the Central American and Caribbean Games, with the 50-meter freestyle set to take place on July 23.
“We are incredibly proud of Sofia and her accomplishments,” Notre Dame head coach Mike Litzinger said. “The opportunity to represent your country is one of the highest honors an athlete can have. Sofia has been an integral part of our women’s swimming success at Notre Dame, and her commitment to excellence will shine as she represents Mexico this summer.”
Revilak earned Honorable Mention All-America accolades as a member of the Notre Dame 400-yard freestyle relay team that placed 15th (Notre Dame record 3:14.65) at the 2018 NCAA Division I Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships in Columbus, Ohio in March. She also swam the fifth-fastest 50-yard freestyle in Notre Dame history with a time of :22.37 at the 2018 Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships in February.
