Roou Honored As First Team Academic All-American

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Matthew Roou was named a First Team Academic All-American by College Sports Communicators on Tuesday, becoming the ninth Fighting Irish men’s player in program history to earn first team status. The men’s soccer team has now earned 24 Academic All-America citations, with eight coming over the past seven seasons during Chad Riley’s tenure.

This is just the latest honor, as he was also named the ACC Offensive Player of the Year and to the First Team All-ACC earlier in November.

Roou led the ACC in points (32), points per game (1.88), goals (14) and goals per game (0.82). The talisman’s 14 goals are the most in a season by an Irish player since Jon Gallagher scored 14 during the 2016 campaign.
