AS A FRESHMAN: Rowed with the first and second novice eight and the third varsity eight during first collegiate season … member of the victorious second novice eight in a race victory over No. 1 Ohio State (6:52.73) during debut at the Big Ten/ACC Double Dual … second novice eight crew completed weekend sweep with a win over No. RV Michigan State in 7:08.00 during the regatta’s afternoon session … moved to the first novice eight and earned two runner-up finishes at the Dale England Cup … placed fourth with the third varsity eight (6:51.90) in the grand final of the 2015 ACC Championship.
PREP AND PERSONAL: Won three varsity letters in swimming at Firestone High School … 2014 OHSAA Sectional qualifier in the 200 and 500 yard freestyle and the 400 yard freestyle relay … 2014 OHSAA District qualifier in all three events, earning a place in the state meet in the 200 yard freestyle relay … sectional qualifier in the 500 yard freestyle, 100 yard breaststroke and 400 yard freestyle as a junior in 2013 … 2013 district qualifier in the 500 free and 100 breast, as well as the 400 yard free relay … also competed with the Firestone Akron Swim Team (FAST) and with local USA Swimming club team … Akron Beacon Journal Star Student recipient … received the NFHS National Award for Excellence … served as vice president of Firestone High School’s chapter of the National Honor Society … has volunteered in the St. Hilary Parish Sunday School program, at the Akron Children’s Hospital Art Therapy Center and at the El Campito Child Development Center in South Bend … daughter of David (’91) and Molly (’87) Scantling … has three brothers, John, Michael and James … has two sisters, Annie and Katherine … is the eighth member of immediate family who has attended Notre Dame … aunt, Karen (Kramer) Beringer (’87), was a monogram winner in swimming at Notre Dame … father, David, played varsity water polo at Air Force, and competed on the club water polo team at Notre Dame … brother, John, swims at John Carroll University … enrolled in the College of Science.
