One of the most athletic liberos in the BIG EAST … has the quickness to cover a large chunk of the court … energetic and plays with a lot of emotion … strong court leader … never afraid to sacrafice her body to make the play.
As a Senior (2011): Closed out sensational career with another solid season as the team[apos]s libero … had 474 digs on the year … had double-digit kill totals in 27 of the 30 matches, including five 20-plus kill efforts … had 22 digs in a 3-1 win over Butler (Aug. 28) … also had 22 and 24 digs, respectively, in matches against Villanova (Sept. 25) and Cincinnati (Oct. 1) … tallied 20 digs against Connecticut (Oct. 29) … had season-high 25 digs at Syracuse (Nov. 13) … finished career fourth in school history with 1,434 digs … also finished third in school history with a 3.55 digs per set average, third with 50 matches leading the team in digs, third in 10+ dig matches with 73 matches and fourth in 20+ dig matches with 14 … also added 27 service aces and 56 assists … earned Notre Dame[apos]s Patrick O[apos]Conner award along with three other student-athletes for 2011-12 … named the Notre Dame Monogram Club MVP and received the Notre Dame Club of St. Joseph Valley Rockne Student-Athlete award for volleyball … earned a monogram.
As a Junior (2010): Earned national attention by being named to the U.S. Women[apos]s National A2 Team … winner of the Notre Dame Club of St. Joseph Valley Rockne Student-Athlete Award … continued her firecracker play on the court with 398 digs (3.75/set) and 20 matches with 10+ scoops (five with 20+) … started the season with six digs while playing in three of four sets versus Marshall (Aug. 27) … dished out three assists with 10 digs and cleanly fielded 21 serves in a five-set victory over Cal Poly (Aug. 28) … assisted on four kills with an ace and 12 digs at Nevada (Sept. 4) … recorded one ace in five straight matches from Sept. 4-12) … began a streak of four matches with at least 10+ digs (Sept. 17-24) with a career-best 24 scoops versus Delaware (Sept. 17) … fielded 49 serves without an error from Sept. 12-19 … 16 more digs came against Santa Clara (Sept. 18) … 11 digs at USF (Oct. 1) and 13 digs at Georgetown (Oct. 3) … also added two kills and three aces against the Hoyas … posted dig-outputs of 20 and 29, respectively, during matches against DePaul (Oct. 15) and Western Michigan (Oct. 19) … first career back-to-back 20+ dig performances … 10 digs against Syracuse (Oct. 23) and 13 more versus Marquette (Oct. 24) … had one ace in four straight matches from Oct. 15-24 … 18 digs against Connecticut (Oct. 31) … parlayed with 25 digs at Villanova (Nov. 5), teamed with classmate Kristen Dealy (34) to become the first pair of Irish players to record 20+ digs in a contest since a 2007 match at LSU (Megan Dunne – 23, Adrianna Stasiuk – 26) … 14 digs against Northern Iowa (Nov. 7) … posted a match-high 17 digs and two aces at Rutgers (Nov. 13) … got under 21 shots against Villanova (Nov. 19) and 16 more against Cincinnati (Nov. 20) at the BIG EAST Championship … had 17 aces on the season.
As a Sophomore (2009): Led the Irish with 3.40 digs/set … scooped 323 shots in 95 sets … ranked ninth among BIG EAST players with 3.93 digs/set in league play … second on the team with 0.68 assists/set while totaling 65 dimes … fielded .947 of the serves that came her way, finishing nine matches without an error (including 35 of 35 at Syracuse on Nov. 8) … dished out nine assists in a five-set win versus Miami (Sept. 19) … posted a season-high 23 digs at Xavier (Sept. 4), one of three matches with 20+ digs … had 21 digs against both WVU (Oct. 18) and Marquette (Nov. 8) … went six straight matches with 10+ digs (Sept. 19-Oct. 4) and closed the season with double-digit dig totals in seven of the final eight contests … delivered an ace in the first match of the season with Denver (Aug. 28) … two aces dropped in a four-setter with Wisconsin (Sept. 11) … six assists and 14 digs at Florida State (Sept. 20) … 18 digs against Villanova (Oct. 4) … 17 digs against Louisville (Nov. 21) in the BIG EAST Tournament … three matches with 20+ received serves without an error … totaled three kills and 10 aces for 13.0 points on the season … named an alternate for the 2010 United States Women[apos]s National A2 Volleyball team.
As a Freshman (2008): One of two freshmen to start the season opener against IPFW (Aug. 29) … took full advantage of the given opportunity by recording 12 digs and three assists … six more assists and 14 digs came against Nevada (Aug. 30) … had 21 digs – the first 20-dig effort by an Irish player since Adrianna Stasiuk posted an identical total at Connecticut (Oct. 27) in 2007 – and four assists versus in-state foe Valparaiso (Aug. 31) … averaged 4.27 digs/set in four matches during the Shamrock Invitational (Aug. 29-31) … that clip ranked fourth in the BIG EAST Conference and was the best among league rookies … stabbed 18 digs in a four-set battle against Eastern Washington (Sept. 5) … career-high three aces came versus No. 16 Cal Poly (Sept. 12) … against No. 4 California (Sept. 13), filled the stat sheet with 12 digs, two aces, five assists and one kill … went five matches without a reception error (Oct. 5-16) … 12 digs at DePaul (Oct. 16) … had 10 digs in three of her four final matches on the year … six assists versus Xavier (Nov. 28) in the season finale … second on the team with 239 total digs (2.54/set) and third with 51 assists … tacked on a flawless serving pct. in nine matches … appeared in 94 sets and 27 matches … one of eight Irish players that helped win the Collegiate Beach Volleyball Challenge at Fiesta On Siesta Key team title.
The Silva File: Averaged 5.9 digs/set as a libero during her senior season at Dana Hills (Calif.) … wrapped up her final prep year with a trio of 30+ dig efforts, including 37 in the season inal against Newport Harbor … The Orange County Register bestowed upon her its Athlete of the Week award after she posted 106 digs in the first three rounds of the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Division I-AA playoffs, as she totaled 346 digs over the course of the 2007 season … South Coast League Female Athlete of the Year in 2007 … nominee for the Orange County Female Athlete of the Year … first team all-league performer in 2007 … first team all-Orange County and second-team all-CIF I-AA as a senior … since 2005, her club team (Laguna Beach) had only suffered three losses while posting 49 wins and a trio of top 10 finishes at the Junior Olympics heading into the 2008 club season … played with Laguna Beach for eight years … placed ninth in the 18 Open division at the Junior Olympics in 2008 … the travel squad was third in the 2007 edition of the national event … the team swept through the competition to net first place in the Southern California Volleyball Association tournament after her sophomore season … invited to the USA A2 High Performance volleyball camp in Colorado Springs, Colo., during her first two prep seasons … after training with the program as a sophomore she was named the ‘Best Passer’ at the conclusion of the championship tournament … her performance then prompted an invitation to train at the USA Holiday Volleyball Camp in Austin, Texas, as she was also extended that opportunity one season later … on the track, she helped set three school records in relay events as a freshman – and proceeded to break two of those marks as a sophomore – then cracked the top 4×100 relay time during her junior season … her 4×100 relay tandem was seventh in the CIF finals after racking an eighth-place finish in 2006 … led Dana Hills to both league and Orange County titles in 2008 … part of Dana Hills[apos] Wall of Fame … high school class valedictorian … a staple on the Dana Hills honor roll throughout her high school career, garnering top honors from the school superintendent after each of her eight semesters as a prep … daughter of Michael and Gina Silva … father played football at Westminster College (Utah) … has one brother, Giancarlo … graduated in the spring of 2012 from the College of Arts & Letters with a degree in American studies.
