AS A SENIOR (2013): A team captain … earned third team All-America honors from the USILA … first team all-BIG EAST … USILA Scholar All-American along with being a finalist for the Senior CLASS Award … competed in the USILA North-South All-Star game … started all 16 games … a major reason why the Fighting Irish defense posted the nation[apos]s 10th-best goals-against average (8.31) … that mark ranked first among all BIG EAST teams … Notre Dame also ranked 10th nationally and first in the BIG EAST in man-down defense (.737) … picked up 28 ground balls … scooped up a season-best three ground balls on five occasions … received his second monogram.
AS A JUNIOR (2012): Earned honorable mention All-America honors from the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) … second team all-BIG EAST … started all 16 games in the close defensive unit for the Irish … Notre Dame[apos]s dominant defense led the nation in goals-against average (6.31) along with boasting the top man-down defense (.892) … had one assist and 30 ground balls … picked up a career-high five ground balls against St. John[apos]s in the semifinals of the BIG EAST Championship … matched the career-high ground ball total versus Virginia in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championship … assisted on Notre Dame[apos]s fourth goal in a 7-5 setback to Loyola in the semifinals of the NCAA Championship … that was his first career point … earned his first monogram.
AS A SOPHOMORE (2011): Played in one game … saw time in a 14-3 win at Providence.
AS A FRESHMAN (2010): Saw action in one game during his rookie season … took the field during the 11-3 win over Providence.
PREP AND PERSONAL: A four-year varsity letterwinner with the lacrosse team at Notre Dame Academy … switched from midfielder to defense during sophomore year … tallied seven goals and nine assists during his senior season along with compiling 120 ground balls and 64 takeaways … named team MVP during his senior campaign … selected to The Washington Post all-Met second team in 2009 in addition to being a Washington Post all-Extra first team … first team Maryland Independent Lacrosse League … named all-conference and all-state on the way to leading team to a conference and state championship during sophomore campaign … also earned all-conference honors and a conference championship junior year … named team captain for his senior season … participated in the Under Armour underclassmen game as a member of the DC team … was a member of the National Honor Society … nominated as school president for student government … son of Eric and Nancy Miller … mother played lacrosse at Lynchburg … one sibling … brother, David, played lacrosse at Maryland and joined Matt on the Irish roster for the 2013 season … graduated from the Mendoza College of Business in May 2013 with a finance degree … finished with a 3.126 cumulative GPA.
