NOTRE DAME SET FOR SAN DIEGO CREW CLASSIC – The Irish rowing team returns to action this weekend (April 1-2) when it travels to San Diego for the prestigious San Diego Crew Classic at Mission Bay … the weekend will be highlighted by the varsity eight race, the Jessop-Whittier Cup … nine of the 13 boats that are set to race for the Jessop-Whittier Cup are among the 28 that received votes in the most recent Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association national poll: #2 California, #6 Stanford, #8 USC, #9 Wisconsin, #11 Washington State, #15 UCLA, Northeastern (21st-most votes), Notre Dame (22nd) and Texas (24th), plus the nation’s top-ranked Division III team (Trinity) … Notre Dame also will compete in three other races – the second varsity eight, open eight and novice eight … Notre Dame won the novice eight petite final at the 2005 San Diego Crew Classic while placing second in the petite final of the Jessop-Whittier Cup, third in the petite final of the second varsity event and fifth in the open eight grand final.
