Schwitzenberg Named ACC Defensive Player Of The Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – For the second time this season, Nate Schwitzenberg has earned ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors, as announced by the league on Tuesday afternoon.

Schwitzenberg and the Fighting Irish turned in a defensive masterclass, holding No. 1 UNC to a season-low five goals in Saturday’s 10-5 win between the nation’s top-two ranked teams. Just two of the five goals scored by the Tar Heels came in settled six-on-six possessions.

The junior held Tar Heel Dom Pietramala to just one goal, which came in an extra-man opportunity. Schwitzenberg finished with a caused turnover and a ground ball. Schwitzenberg and the Notre Dame defense have now held six of their nine opponents to single-digit goals, all coming in wins.

Notre Dame wraps up the road portion of its regular-season schedule on Saturday, taking on No. 16/15 Duke in Durham. Faceoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. ET and the game will be played at Koskinen Stadium. The matchup will air on ESPNU.
