Pinehurst, N.C. – The Notre Dame women’s golf team shot a 333 in the second round at the Edwin Watts/Carolinas Collegiate Classic on Saturday. The Irish are in 16th-place with a 36-hole total of 671 at the tournament hosted by the College of Charleston. Play was suspended with four teams still needing to complete the second round. The round will be completed at 8:00 a.m. Sunday morning and the final round will begin with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. The 54-hole tournament is being played at the par 72, 5,898-yard Pinehurst #8 course.
East Carolina moved into first place with a second-round score of 309, giving them a 36-hole total of 620. The Pirates began the day in third place. Three strokes behind the Pirates is Georgia State with a 623 (314-309). Alabama-Birmingham is in third, one stroke behind Georgia State with a 624 (310-314). Rounding out the top five, North Carolina-Wilmington is fourth with a 629 (313-316) and Penn State shot a 313 for a 635 total to move from eighth to fifth place.
Individual second-round placings will be determined after all teams have completed the second round. Jessica Krasny of East Carolina began play on Saturday as the tournament leader with an 18-hole total of 73. Notre Dame’s top golfer after the first round was sophomore Karen Lotta (Los Angeles, Calif.). Lotta was eight strokes off the lead after shooting a nine-over par 81.
All individual results listed are based on 18 hole scores. Final results will be made available at the conclusion of Sunday’s action.
