CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Seven Irish volleyball players were named to the All-ACC Academic Team, the conference announced Wednesday afternoon. Maisie Alexander, Maya Baker, Cailey Dockery, Morgan Gaerte, Sydney Helmers, Grace Langer and Harmony Sample all earned the prestigious conference honor.
It’s the fourth-straight year Alexander and Dockery were named to the All-ACC Academic Team. Alexander recorded 10 aces in 24 matches this year while Dockery played in all 28 matches last fall and logged a career-high 179 digs.
For Gaerte and Langer, it’s their second time making the list. Langer started in all 28 matches this past season and totaled 112 blocks to go along with 95 kills.
Baker, Helmers and Sample all earned their first-career academic conference accolade. Baker played in all 28 matches last year and led the team with 549 assists. Helmers finished the season with 229 kills and 157 digs in her first season with Notre Dame. Sample, who wrapped up her collegiate career this past fall posted two double-doubles and had a career-best season with 324 assists.
Academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team include a 3.0-grade point average for the previous two semesters, a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career, has to have been enrolled at the institution for at least one year, and the student must be classified as an undergraduate student. In addition, student-athletes must compete in at least 50 percent of their team’s athletic contests.
